LOS ANGELES, July 11, 2022 — For the second consecutive year, Tennis Channel and its affiliated platforms will be the exclusive home of the US Open Series. The annual summer hard-court season leading up to the US Open in late August features seven events in 2022, beginning with this week’s Hall of Fame Open for the Van Alen Cup in Newport, R.I. (series calendar, schedule information below).
The 2022 US Open Series consists of: the Hall of Fame Open for the Van Alen Cup (Newport),* Atlanta Open(Atlanta),Citi Open* (Washington), Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic (San Jose, Calif.), Western & Southern Open(Cincinnati), Winston-Salem Open (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Tennis In The Land(Cleveland). Men’s ATP contests are in Newport, Atlanta, Washington and Winston-Salem. Women’s WTA competitions are in San Jose and Cleveland, while Cincinnati is a combined men’s and women’s event.
This year Tennis Channel plans to televise more than 255 live hours of US Open Series matches, and an additional 240 encore hours, devoting close to 500 on-air hours to the circuit. Tennis Channel Pluswill show live and on-demand competition at each tournament, allowing viewers to select which courts they want to focus on, or to jump from match to match at their convenience. Samsung TV Plus viewers will also see every event for free, via the network’s recently launched T2 channel. On-air talent for the individual US Open Series events will be determined throughout the summer. Tennis Channel will have an on-site desk in Cincinnati, as the tournament is an ATP Masters 1000 competition.
Coverage in Newport this week is highlighted by the International Tennis Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Saturday, July 16, at 6 p.m. ET. Tennis Channel will be live as 2001 Wimbledon champion and 2002 US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt is acknowledged with the sport’s highest honor. Leading into the ceremony, Tennis Channel Live’s on-air team will feature host Steve Weissman (@Steve_Weissman), Hall of Famer Pam Shriver (@PHShriver) and former player Prakash Amritraj (@PrakashAmritraj). Longtime network announcer Brett Haber (@Brett Haber) is returning as the master of ceremonies during Hewitt’s enshrinement.
