Venus Williams will attempt to win her 10th career clay-court title when she faces unseeded Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai in the final of Madrid.

Williams smoked Shahar Peer 6-3 6-0 on Saturday, while Rezai advanced when Lucie Safarova retired with a hamstring injury, after having lost the first set 6-1.

The 29-year-old Williams, who will regain the No. 2 world ranking on Monday, has won two Tier I clay-court titles: Rome, in 1999, and Charleston, in 2004. Rezai is 1-1 against Williams.—M.C.
