WIMBLEDON, England (AP) Second-seeded Vera Zvonareva held on to beat Alison Riske of the United States 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 Monday in the first round at Wimbledon.
The Russian struggled for part of the match on Court 1 but broke her opponent to take a 5-3 lead in the third set before serving it out for victory.
Zvonareva originally was seeded No. 3 but moved up a spot when Kim Clijsters withdrew because of injury.
