Twenty-year-old Elina Svitolina is perhaps best known for being on the receiving end of the quirkiest handshake of the season. (And trust me, there have been a lot of offbeat or otherwise perfunctory ones.) Czech pro Barbara Zahlavova Strycova delivered an emphatic gesture that she forced Svitolina into after an initial drive-by touch at the net in Tokyo. The Ukrainian had beaten the Czech 6-4, 6-1. You could call it "Shake Republic." I did.

Even so, Svitolina has turned the tables now, giving us something else entirely to talk about. In a clip posted to her Instagram account, she delivered a supremely well-executed trick serve. She drops her racquet, perpendicular to the ground, directly onto the court with a ball nestled on the end of its handle. You simply have to see the rest:

Now your loyal Spin keeper has been struggling with his own regularly-conducted serve recently. (A 2013 shoulder injury turned into a 2014 hitch that now has spawned additional yips. It's as if my serve hitches have their own hitches now.) This trick shot from Svitolina then, it serves as another reminder that sometimes, these pros, they're actually not just like us. And so it goes.
