No one doubts the do-good nature of Roger Federer, an outsized star in sport, one who transcends tennis and enters the societal and cultural spheres as a major presence. Of course, he serves as president of his own philanthropic organization, the eponymous Roger Federer Foundation. Below is footage of himself with mother Lynette in her home nation of South Africa, in the Hlukani and Govhu crèches (a sort of daytime nursery for small children, akin to an orphanage) in the country's Limpopo province.

Per RF's official video, he and his mum "were given a warm reception by the children, parents, caregivers and official representatives from various authorities. The Roger Federer Foundation has partnered the locally organized READ Educational Trust since 2010."

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic is aiding in the rehabilitation of sea turtles. Yes, you read that correctly. And yes, it's a real regional problem in the world. Per Djokovic's website, he's participating with the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project.

Rhetorical question, but one that begs an answer at the same time: How great is it to see these titans of tennis giving back? To whom much is given, much will always be expected. They fulfill that need, playing more than just one racquet-wielding role in their lives, and in the lives of others, whether human or reptile. Simply put, they are patrons of creation.
