At the WTA Live's All-Access Hour in Montreal, Maria Sharapova put on a seven-minute show, giving the fans what they want: Chirpy musings on celebrities, summer, boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov, and the prospect of playing mixed doubles with him. Watch here:
Who would've thought Sharapova favors films with Jack Nicholson or Vince Vaughn in them, of all players? Despite her caustic on-court demeanor, she relishes comedy films. She addressed another fan question by saying she's game to appear in a mixed-doubles draw alongside Dimitrov, with whom she plays doubles in practice sometimes. But she doesn't want to do so in a Grand Slam event, which narrows their chances down to nada. No other tournament features mixed-doubles action save the Olympic Games, and that would require a citizenship change for one or the other of these lovebirds.
The denouement came when Sharapova was faced with a gaming option: Either take part in a French-language quiz or play a bit of air hockey. She opted for the French, though her knowledge of the tongue is "terrible," saying "at least [she] can learn something." She proceeded to blitz the game, answering every query correctly despite herself. Ce n'est pas tres difficile.
And apparently her game is as rusty as her French. She opened with a three-set win over Garbine Muguruza before falling in the third round to Carla Suarez Navarro.
