Defending champion Serena Williams started her U.S. Open campaign with a demolition of former French Open winner Francesca Schiavone, who won but one game in their opening contest. Serena is now in the third round, next facing Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.

In a theft of Victoria Azarenka's look, Serena appeared for her first-round match sporting Beats by Dre headphones, and she's presently shilling for Radio Shack in a new spot that the Spin first saw whilst watching the monstrosity that was MTV's Video Music Awards on Sunday. Set to Robin Thicke's remix of "Give It 2 U" featuring Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz, the commercial features Serena in sunglasses and knee-high heeled boots and wielding a flame thrower to, well, #DestroyBadSound. Ahead of the Open, Serena went on The Late Show with David Letterman and talked junking the ball, potentially playing Andy Murray, golf, Billie Jean King versus Bobby Riggs, Paris, playing on grass, and more. The full segment is here:

What's your verdict: Does Serena remain the player to beat in New York City? Who could upend her there at this point?
