KEY BISCAYNE, Fla.— Saturday at the Miami Open features both top seeds Roger Federer and Simona Halep taking the court during the day session.

Federer will have to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Juan Martin del Potro in Indian Wells on Sunday, where he held three match points on his serve and was dumfounded by his inability to close it out. The 36-year-old quickly hopped a jet to Chicago to promote the Laver Cup, and had a few days of practice in Miami ahead of his start against Thanasi Kokkinakis.

While Federer has enjoyed days of rest and practice, the women's top seed Halep nearly lost her opening round on Thursday. Facing a 4-2 deficit in the third set against big-hitting lucky loser Oceane Dodin, Halep refused to give up. Digging deep in third sets is something the Romanian has worked hard on improving, and the results have paid dividends this year. She'll hope to not need three sets against Agnieszka Radwanska.
