He got knocked down and didn’t even need to get up again!

World No. 192 Quentin Halys made a strong case for why the post-Wimbledon clay swing is worth watching when he hit one of the best shots of the year in the quarterfinals of the EGF Swiss Open Gstaad.

Taking on Gustavo Heide, the 27-year-old French qualifier was up an early break on the Brazilian when he got wrong-footed on game point, tumbling to the ground. Despite looking out of the point, Halys made a Hail Mary stab at Heide’s reply, striking an impossibly heavy forehand with only his upper body strength on which to rely.

Though Heide tracked the near-winner, he missed long and Halys got some well-earned applause.

Riding the momentum from an incredible point through the first set, Halys ultimately dispatched Heide, 6-1, 7-5, to reach only his second ATP semifinal (2023 Estoril).

Tentatively projected to move into the Top 150 from this result, the former world No. 61 will next face either No. 4 seed Tomás Martín Etcheverry or No. 5 seed Jan-Lennard Struff for the chance to reach the biggest final of his career.
