With his win over Florian Mayer in Stuttgart, Roger Federer passed Ivan Lendl for second-most wins in the Open era by reaching 1,072 wins. Jimmy Connors still has a considerable lead with 1,256. Federer's match wins will remain at that for now since Dominic Thiem beat him for the second time this year, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 on Saturday.

Also in Stuttgart, Juan Martin del Potro continued his resurgence by taking out Gilles Simon, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-0 to reach the semifinals. It’s the Argentine’s first grass event since reaching the semifinals of Wimbledon back in 2013.

Returning from a back injury that forced her out for more than two months, Belinda Bencic reached the ’s-Hertogenbosch semifinals. She faced the tough ask of playing one of her closest friends on tour, Kristina Mladenovic for a spot in the final, but ultimately fell 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

CoCo Vandeweghe won the all-American semifinal against Madison Brengle, and is into her second career 's-Hertogenbosch final (she won the title in 2014).

France has chosen indoor hard courts for its Fed Cup final against the defending champion Czech Republic  team. The tie will take place in Strasbourg, France on Nov. 12-13. The Czechs are hoping to win their fifth title in six years, while the French team is in its first final since 2005.
