American Shelby Rogers’ dream run in Paris has continued with a 6-0, 6-7 (3), 6-0 upset over No. 10 seed Petra Kvitova, while Irina-Camelia Begu kept her stellar play going to top Annika Beck for her first French Open fourth-round appearance. Either Rogers or Begu will be into their maiden major quarterfinal as they face each other next. One-time Roland Garros champion Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced to take on Garbine Mugurza, while Simona Halep will next face Samantha Stosur. American hope Sloane Stephens crumbled against Tsvetana Pironkova, 6-2, 6-1.

Saturday will see a showdown between young stars Madison Keys and Monica Puig. The Puerto Rican leads their head-to-head, 2-1.

Canada’s Milos Raonic beat lucky loser Andrej Martin for a spot in the fourth round and will look to take advantage of another unseeded opponent, Albert Ramos Vinolas next.  John Isner is the last American standing as he advanced to the fourth round. He will have to pull out all the stops if he wants to upset world No. 2 Andy Murray.

On Saturday, if Dominic Thiem can top teenager Alexander Zverev for the third time this year, he won’t have to face Rafael Nadal (who withdrew against Marcel Grannollers).

Rafael Nadal dealt a blow to the tournament on Friday by withdrawing with a left wrist injury. He said he felt the pain getting worse since Madrid last month, and his doctor told him he wouldn’t be able to finish the tournament in Paris. The Spaniard played his second round after an injection numbed his wrist completely. Injuries are nothing new for Nadal, but what does this mean for his season?

With Nadal out, Novak Djokovic doesn't have to worry about facing the King of Clay in the semifinals. The highest remaining seed in his half was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga until he retired with a leg injury against Ernests Gulbis.
