With custody dispute affecting travel, Azarenka unsure of next event

Victoria Azarenka indicates that her custody dispute is still restricting her travel, and that she does not know what will be her next tournament appearance.

"When I have some news, I'll be ready to share them," she told press following her semifinal at Miami.

The Belarussian, who had her first child in 2017, initially returned to tour during the grass-court season, but played just two events before a court order was issued in her custody case with her former boyfriend and father of the child.

Azarenka returned this March in Indian Wells, just a few miles from where she resides, and then played Miami, traveling there with her son under an unspecified arrangement.

Though the former No. 1 does not plan to play any smaller local events, she did suggest that she is anticipating a ruling or agreement which could allow her to return to playing regularly.

"I don't think I'm going to go back to ITF level, with all due respect. I have done that before," she said. "I'm keeping my hopes up. I just don't want to talk too much, because my words are always used against me."

Azarenka's semifinal appearance will again return her to the Top 100 in the WTA rankings.
