After a judge dismissed a murder case against her, veteran umpire Lois Goodman wants to go back to work.
The 70-year-old had been accused of killing her 80-year-old husband with a coffee cup, but on Friday a judge threw out the case at the request of the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, which said it “could not proceed” due to a lack of sufficient evidence. However, the judge dismissed the case without prejudice, which means that the district attorney has the option to re-file charges against Goodman.
“I didn’t do anything. I would never hurt my husband,” Goodman told the Los Angeles Times. “I loved him and I was his caretaker, and he came first and I came second…I feel I have been treated fairly now and it was just a tragic accident.”
She then told the newspaper that she would “definitely” try to return to her job as an umpire.
Alison Triessl, one of Goodmen’s attorneys, added: “And to the USTA please rehire this woman. She is an amazing lines judge, and she deserves to work for you.”
