Caroline Wozniacki will become the first Danish player to reach the No. 2 spot when the rankings are published next week. The teenager clinched her new career-high position by overcoming close friend Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals of Indian Wells.
Wozniacki, 19, will face former No.1 Jelena Jankovic in the final. The Serb posted a 6-2, 6-4 semifinal victory over Sam Stosur.
Jankovic has a 3-0 record against Wozniacki, who has never won a WTA Premier title. But the Dane feels like she’s playing at a high enough level to back up her No. 2 status. “I think I'm a great player and I've done a lot of good results; it's not easy to beat me,” said wozniacki. “The opponent has to play really well to beat me. I think I'm just a fighter, and I think the ranking talks for itself.”–M.C.
