Washington, D.C., will host a women's tennis tournament in 2011, the WTA tour said Friday.
The tournament will replace the Ponte Vedra Beach tournament, the clay event that was shut down this year. It will take place the week of July 25, 2011, one week before the city's ATP tour event.
The event will be at the "international" level, which means it can include only one Top 20 player. A more prestigious tournament will take place in Stanford, Calif., the same week.
I'll be watching the men's semifinals today, so follow along on Twitter.
Update: The WTA just issued a statement saying the tournament will be held in Howard County, Maryland.
