The WTA Top 10 features ten players from ten different countries and four continents this week, consisting of Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark, Kim Clijsters from Belgium, Vera Zvonareva from Russia, Francesca Schiavone from Italy, Sam Stosur from Australia, Venus Williams from the U.S., Li Na from China, Jelena Jankovic from Serbia, Victoria Azarenka from Belarus and Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland.
Clijsters moves to No. 2 after winning the Australian Open, just 140 points behind Wozniacki.
Serena Williams, who was the defending champion, dropped from No. 4 to No. 12 after injuries forced her to miss the event this year. Justine Henin has had her name taken off the rankings after announcing her retirement last week, and Elena Dementieva has also been removed from the list this week after retiring at the end of last year.
Schiavone and Li are setting new national highs for Italy and China, respectively, as is Shahar Peer for Israel at No. 11, making it 11 different countries in the top 11.
Li went from No. 11 to No. 7 after reaching the Australian Open final, while Wozniacki held on to No. 1 by reaching the semifinals. Francesca Schiavone reached a career-high No. 4 after a series of marathon performances through the quarterfinals. Another quarterfinalist, Petra Kvitova, is up ten spots to enter the Top 20 at No. 18.
