DOHA, Qatar (AP)—The women’s tennis tour has unveiled a new logo at the season-ending WTA Championship that aims to shift the spotlight from sponsors to the tour itself.
Until now, the logo has included the WTA name along with main sponsor Sony Ericsson and a small graphic of a tennis player. The new logo unveiled in Doha, Qatar Sunday features only the letters WTA in white with a bright purple background.
WTA officials said the aim of the rebranding is to remind fans “of the captivating athleticism and excitement that has driven the international popularity and growth of women’s professional tennis.”
The new logo will be fully integrated throughout women’s professional tennis in the 2011 season, including in television graphics, tournament branding and social media.
