You may have seen my post yesterday (scroll down if you’re curious) on a not-quite-funny tennis column by the L.A. Times sports department’s contrarian-in-residence T.J. Simers (curiously, I understand from SoCal FPPs that Kobe Bryant can do no wrong in Simers’ eyes).

Turns out that the column appeared with a few critical words inserted into U.S. Davis Cup team captain Pat McEnroe’s quotes.

This caused Pat considerable grief as fellow coaches, reaching all the way to the highest echelons of the USTA, called to register their dismay with Pat’s quote. Times sports editor Bill Dwyre sought Pat out and apologized. The paper published a correction.
