BEIJING (AP)—Zheng Jie of China will have surgery to repair an injury to her left wrist and is likely out for the rest of the year.
Tournament organizers said Wednesday that Zheng has withdrawn from next week's China Open in Beijing. She will fly back to the United States for surgery. The 23rd-ranked Zheng is expected to be out for three to six months.
Her injury got worse during the U.S. Open in New York. She was knocked out in the second round by Ana Ivanovic, but reached the semifinals in doubles.
