SEOUL, South Korea (AP) Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia outlasted Christina McHale 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in a nearly two-hour match on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Korea Open.
The second-seeded Schmiedlova had eight aces and broke McHale seven times in the match to overcome dropping her own serve five times.
The Slovakian, who turned 21 earlier this month, is aiming for her third title of the year. She next faces Germany's Mona Barthel, a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Mariana Duque-Marino of Colombia.
Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck, the eighth seed, also advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (3).
