Novak Djokovic has given a large donation to hospitals in some of Italy's biggest coronavirus-affected regions.

"We never expected to see among our donations a name so prestigious," said Peter Assembergs, director general of West Bergamo, in an interview with *La Repubblica* in Italy. "These days, there have been many companies and individuals and I am thanking everyone for their generosity. But reading the name of the best tennis player in the world, Novak Djokovic, was really emotional.''

The donation will be used to help modernize the hospital's emergency facilities.

Djokovic had also previously donated and helped purchase 1 million Euros of hospital supplies for Serbia.

Assembergs added that Djokovic said, "I do not care if it's known, unless you think it can contribute to raising awareness among other potential donors."
