Stefanos Tsitsipas says two-week Masters 1000s are 'a drag'—but Stan Wawrinka remembers when he said otherwise

NEW YORK — On Monday, teenager Frances Tiafoe let a lot of chances slip away in the first round of the US Open. He led by two sets to love against John Isner on the new Grandstand, and had a chance to serve it out up a break at 5-3 in the fifth set.

Instead of walking away with the upset against the No. 20 seed, the 18-year-old ranked No. 125 had his heart crushed in front of a standing-room only, packed crowd, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (3).

The embrace at the net said it all.

Earlier in the day, Caroline Wozniacki beat Taylor Townsend to open up play on the newest court in Flushing Meadows. After her three-set win, she said, "I think its gonna be a court with a lot of special matches in the future."

Who knew she would be proved right that same afternoon?
