It seems Christmas came early for fans of Polish tennis, after Magda Linette announced that former world No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska has become the newest member of her coaching team.

“Someone pinch me! @ARadwanska just joined my team!” Linette wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where she posted the first picture of the pair on the practice court.

Poland’s longtime standard bearer before Iga Swiatek stormed onto the scene, Radwanska was famous on WTA Tour for her variety and shot selection, and beloved among fans for her cheeky personality. The 35-year-old was voted the WTA Fan Favorite player six years in a row, hit the WTA Shot of the Year five years in a row and starred in countless hot shot highlight reels.

In 2012, she reached the Wimbledon final and climbed to No. 2 in the WTA rankings—both feats marking historic firsts for Polish women’s tennis. Radwanska retired in 2018 with 20 WTA titles to her name, after years of struggling with injuries.

According to Poland’s TVP World, it was Linette’s coach Mark Gellard who first pitched the idea of Radwanska joining the team after the 32-year-old parted ways with second coach Iain Hughes earlier in the season. Radwanska, who remains a popular figure in Polish sport, will reportedly work with Linette during the off-season and through the first part of the 2025 season.

“Honestly, it was a surprise for me,” Linette said on Break Point, a Polish tennis podcast. “I was very hesitant to ask because I didn't think at all that Agnieszka would want to come back to the tour, to travel and that she would want to help me. I was incredibly touched…

“For now, it's supposed to be eight, ten weeks of working together. Until the end of winter. I'm absolutely delighted and very happy. I can't wait for the preparations.”

Linette won her third WTA title this year in Prague—her first victory on tour since 2020 Hua Hin—and reached the final in Rouen, her first time reaching multiple finals since 2019. She’s currently ranked No. 38, having peaked at world No. 13 in 2023.
