Daria Kasatkina and Jelena Ostapenko have hinted at a thaw in the last 12 months but the two rivals officially put their feud to rest at the Adelaide International after Ostapenko captured her seventh WTA title.

Following a warm hug at net, Kasatkina spoke candidly about their evolving friendship during the trophy ceremony.

“I must say that we had our issues with you before,” teased the world No. 15, “but I’m really happy we can be on the same stage in a peaceful environment.”

Kasatkina and Ostapenko both captured junior Slam titles in 2014 and followed one another onto the WTA tour shortly thereafter.

Though the two first faced off in a marquee final at the 2017 Charleston Open, tensions weren’t apparent until a highly-memed US Open encounter four months later:

Ostapenko’s Mariah Carey moment kept the two apart until last summer, when they took part in an on-court soccer match up north in Canada.

Kasatkina documented the reunion on her acclaimed and official YouTube channel *Zabiiako & Kasatkina*:

“We’re teaming up for the first time!” Kasatkina joked in Russian. “Maybe one day we can play doubles!”

“Don’t be shy, Aljona,” she adds when the two share a ride to court in a golf cart. “The camera loves you.”

“Well that’s understandable,” Ostapenko exclaims with a laugh.

For fans following the two since their emergence on tour, it was an emotional moment and a lesson for all that growth is never impossible.

Now we need that promised Kasatkina-Ostapenko doubles pairing: their combination of finesse and power would surely be a hit!
