The action in Miami has officially kicked off. The ladies took the court on Monday, an eventful day that already saw some upsets and major triumphs. The event's top names spent the day posing with their 2020 WTA awards.

Victoria Azarenka

In may of 2016, she stepped away from the game to become a mother and wouldn't return to the court until June of 2017,  playing a handful of events. Now a mother to her four-year-old son Leo, she has found happiness both on and off the court. Last season, she claimed the Western & Southern Open and reached the US Open final. There's no question the Belarusian deserves the Comeback of the Year award.

Sofia Kenin

The American was named the WTA's Player of the Year and it's for a good reason. She won her first major title at last year's Australian Open and also captured Lyon's 250-level event before the pandemic halted the game. Once the sport resumed, she would find herself in the Roland Garros final. One heck of a year for the 22-year-old.

The American was one of t10 players who served on the WTA's council during the pandemic. She was awarded the Peachy Kellmeyer Player Service Award, which is also voted on by fellow players. The world No. 19 helped deliver feedback, suggestions and more to get the game back in action safely amidst the pandemic.

The German scored one of the first main-draw wins on opening day in Miami. In their first encounter, Siegemund managed to post a 6-3, 7-5 score against American Christina McHale. The world No. 59 will next face two-time major champion Azarenka.

Venus Williams

The seven-time Grand Slam champion had another rough day at the office. Venus has struggled to find her way past the second round this season and in Miami she fell to Zarina Diyas, 2-6, 7-6 (10). The No. 79's reaction time seemed to be slightly delayed, which caused her to be on the run for the majority of the affair.
