PRAGUE (AP)—Australian Open quarterfinalist Petra Kvitova will lead the Czech Republic against Slovakia in the first round of the Fed Cup.
The 28th-ranked Kvitova, who will play second-seeded Vera Zvonareva in the quarterfinals in Melbourne on Wednesday, will be accompanied by No. 35 Lucie Safarova and No. 63 Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
Veteran doubles specialist Kveta Peschke is the fourth member of the Czech team that was announced on Tuesday by captain Petr Pala. The event will take place on Feb. 5-6 at Sibamac Arena in the Slovak capital of Bratislava.
The Czechs, who have reached the semifinals in the last two years, have won all three previous encounters against Slovakia.
The two countries formed one state—Czechoslovakia—until 1993.
