BUCHAREST, Romania(AP) Third-seeded Juan Monaco of Argentina defeated Pere Riba of Spain 6-4, 6-2 Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the BCR Open Romania.
Monaco, the highest seed left in the competition, never faced a break point in the match. He converted his only break point in the first set and used two more breaks in the second to secure the win.
Simon Greul of Germany hit 11 aces to defeat sixth-seeded Daniel Koellerer of Austria 6-1, 6-4, and No. 8 Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay beat Peter Luczak of Australia 7-5, 6-4.
Also, Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina beat Oscar Hernandez of Spain 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.
