Rafael Nadal has defeated David Ferrer 7-5, 6-3 in a rain-interrupted Rome final to win his fifth title at the event and maintain his undefeated record on clay this season.
It was also Nadal's 17th Masters tournament win, tying Andre Agassi's record.
Nadal would have a chance to break the record in Madrid in two weeks' time, but has not yet confirmed that he will be playing. The Spaniard said earlier in the season that his commitment to Madrid was tenative and he would make a decision based on his physical condition going into the tournament.
