Before hitting the court, the Serb was greeted with a warm welcome at the airport, where he got a chance to show off his Spanish.

"I send them my hugs and my love and I really look forward to meeting them all," Djokovic said about the eager fans. "I was not planning to come to Mexico at the beginning of the year... I want to thank the tournament for allowing me to be here."

The top seed will open his Acapulco campaign against Martin Klizan on Tuesday.
