Angelique Kerber had a dream year in 2016 from the very start, winning her first major at the Australian Open over reigning champion Serena Williams. She added another title in Stuttgart before picking up a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Rio. Still not finished, the German secured the No. 1 ranking on her way to a US Open title, and then finished runner-up at the WTA Finals in Singapore to Dominika Cibulkova.
