The Baseline Player of the Week: Sebastian Korda

For any player wanting to cement their place in tennis history, the first step is to break into the Top 100. It is the beginning of your arrival and for Sebastian Korda, that milestone has just happened.

The 20-year-old (and six months) jumped to a career-high ranking of world No. 88 after winning his second ATP Challenger title, this time in Quimper, France. (He won his first ATP Challenger last year in Eckental, Germany).

Korda is the youngest player to crack the Top 100 since Jannik Sinner did it two years ago.

Korda's main goal is to catch up to his father, Petr Korda, who was ranked No. 2, and his mother who peaked at No. 26 on the WTA Tour. In January, Korda made quite a big splash by reaching his first ATP Tour final in Delray Beach.

It might have come as shock to fans when the American chose not to compete in the 2021 Australian Open qualifiers, but the decision seems to have paid off.
