Top Florida College Teams: Florida State University

As you’ll learn this week, when it comes to tennis, Florida isn’t just a state—it’s a state of mind.

Florida State University is ranked No. 28 in the men's team ITA rankings, with two players ranked in singles, and a 12-4 winning record. The women are ranked No. 52 and have one singles player ranked No. 103 (Julia Mikulski).

The Men

Sophomore Aziz Dougaz was named ACC Player of the Week after earning a win over Top 10-ranked Alfredo Perez to help the Seminoles upset the higher-ranked University of Florida. Dougaz is ranked No. 52 in singles, and Florida State is 12-4 on the season.

The women

Nandini Das is just a freshman but she's already having an impact on the Seminoles, and has appeared at the top of the lineup in singles. She didn't lose a match this season at No. 3, Hailing from Mumbai, Das trained at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and had some ITF junior success before college.

The men

Dwayne Hultquist has been coaching in Tallahassee for 17 years. Under his guidance, FSU has recorded ACC Player of the Year recipients, six All-American honors, the ITA Most Improved Player award and two national ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winners.

The women

Like Hultquist, Jennifer Hyde has been at FSU for a long time as she's into her 13th season. Hyde has the most wins of any women's coach in school history, surpassing the previous leader with her 142nd win in 2014.

The men

Last season, the Seminoles recorded the first win over a No. 1-ranked team in program history by beating North Carolina, 4-3. The team also appeared in its 14th consecutive NCAA tournament.

The women

The Seminoles reached their first-ever Sweet 16 at the NCAA tournament in 2010. They took out North Florida and South Carolina to earn a trip to Athens, Ga.
