Tsitsipas talks loneliness, creativity with BTR

There's a plethora of reasons why Stefanos Tsitsipas is considered one of the most interesting young players on the ATP Tour: the earnestness he brings to everything he does, his desire to live an exciting life off the court and, of course, the thrilling game that's won him an ATP Finals title.

Fans also relate to his naked sense of discomfort and vulnerability, something not many athletes—especially in tennis, where an opponent will jump on any inkling of weakness—are willing to put on display.

On Noah Rubin's Behind The Racquet Instagram page, Tsitsipas opened up about those things that might make him seem "weird" or "different," showing he's still not willing to hide who he is.

"I was an introverted child and didn't have many friends," he said in the post. "When I started playing on tour, I thought I would develop friendships but it turned out to be the opposite. Most players keep to themselves ... I guess they're just too serious about the whole thing. Friends would make traveling less lonely.⁣⁣”

Still, Tsitsipas doesn't let the difficulties of navigating the ATP locker room stop him from being true to himself.

"I have hobbies that keep me interested in different aspects of life," he also said. (You've surely seen one of his cinematic YouTube videos or other projects reflecting his globetrotting adventures.) "These activities keep me creative and are reflected in my tennis game ... I put Stefanos’ twist on life."

As the only Top 10 ATP player age 21 or younger, and with wins in 10 of his last 11 official matches, Tsitsipas (carried by his creative style) looks poised to sooner or later become one of the game's dominant forces.

At some point, the whole sport will have a Stefanos twist.
